Sprucing up for Fall - David Bjorgaard created a new scarecrow board for kids of all ages to look through and have their pictures taken. He was also on hand Tuesday afternoon at The Farmers House on Hwy. 273 to touch up the farmer board he created last year.
Mr. Bjorgaard has been creating works of art and helping kids with disabilities learn to paint in the Weston area for nearly 20 years. He started helping at West Platte, then had to stop during COVID. He now spends Thursday afternoons at the Atchison After School Club (formerly Boys & Girls Club). Evergy sponsors him, paying his salary during the painting sessions, and buying paint and supplies.
“West Platte was the most rewarding, helping the kids with special needs,” he said. “I didn’t realize the impact with would have boosting their self esteem.” Working one-on-one with kids, he made sure they were successful. “It makes them feel good every day when they see their painting hanging on the wall at home.”
